Math Day
CSU Pueblo Annual Math Day
The Department of Mathematics and Physics at Colorado State University Pueblo annually hosts Math Day, including Swanson and Math Bowl competitions on campus. Math Day returned for the 43rd year on November 21, 2024 drawing students from a wide range of Southern Colorado high schools, including Fountain-Fort Carson, Custer County, Pueblo East, Widefield, Pine Creek, Pueblo Central, Swink, Rye, Pueblo West High School, Pueblo Central, and Clark Digital Online at Paragon all participating this year.
The Swanson Competition, named after long-time math department chair Clarence Swanson, is a rigorous written exam that challenges students with in-depth problem-solving tasks. The top six performers are awarded trophies.
The Math Bowl Competition is a fast-paced, head-to-head contest between two three-person teams. Each team is given 25 seconds to answer a mathematical question. A consolation round is available, and the winning teams advance through a bracket-style tournament to determine the ultimate champion.
New to Math Day are Academic Enrichment activities that include hands-on activities led by CSUP students majoring in Math and other STEM fields.
