Study Abroad/NSE Checklist

  1. Research programs, fill out this intake form and meet with the study abroad coordinator. 
  2. Apply for a Passport
    • If remaining in the US territory, this is not required, but highly recommended.
    • Passport Application
  3. Determine/Narrow down your Study Abroad/NSE Destination(s).
  4. Research the country/state for safety
  5. Research the country’s/state’s culture, weather, customs, and laws
  6. Research cost of living in the desired location (Cost of living…Country/State/Province/City)
  7. Find the exchange rate for the country you would like to study in and determine approximate expense of studying away
  8. Immunization
  9. Meet and discuss with your academic advisor regarding courses necessary for graduation (so that time/money are not wasted, if of concern)
  10. Check your Lease/Rental agreement for expiration of document
  11. Return the Study Abroad Enrollment Agreement and Contract and pay the NSE required, non-refundable fee of $150 to the NSE Coordinator.
  12. Upon nomination of the Study Abroad/NSE Coordinator (grade point average and student conduct will be verified), complete the host university’s application
  13. While waiting for the host’s acceptance letter, prepare the visa documents (if needed).
  14. A visa is required for legal entrance into a given foreign country depending on length of stay
  15. Complete the Visa application, based on your country of intended study
  16. Make a visa appointment with the country’s Embassy (see country website for details)
  17. Upon receipt of the visa, make final arrangements for travel (to include booking flight(s) arrangement of housing in host country/state stay)

Requirements

Students wishing to participate in study abroad programs must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and have good student conduct. Students must have also been enrolled in classes for two semesters at CSU Pueblo. To participate in foreign-speaking countries, it may be required to have at least two semesters of university studies in the required language. Some universities teach their courses in the English language, but you may need to participate in intensive language courses in a particular country to be able to communicate with locals.  Financial aid can be used for programs that give university credit. Please check with the study abroad coordinator or program coordinator for program specific details.
