Start a Club
Interested in starting a new student organization at CSU Pueblo? The Student Leadership, Involvement, Career, and Engagement (SLICE) Office is here to support you through the process. Review the requirements below to make sure your club idea is a good fit and learn how to become a recognized student organization.
Requirements to Create a Club
The first step to starting any club is to make sure that a similar club does not already exist. If a similar club is not already active on campus, you can create a club that fits your mission and purpose.
To create a club, you will need:
- At least four currently enrolled CSU Pueblo students to serve as club officers.
- A written club constitution (see the Student Organization Handbook for an example).
- A CSU Pueblo faculty or staff member willing to serve as the club advisor.
- Club membership that is open to any and all interested CSU Pueblo students.
Officers
Officers are responsible for representing the club and handling official business on behalf of the organization. Officers can reserve space on campus through Auxiliary Services and are responsible for gaining approvals and submitting paperwork to the Student Leadership, Involvement, Career, and Engagement Office.
Officer roles and responsibilities should be clearly outlined in the club’s constitution.
Members
Members are students who participate in the club, contribute ideas, and help carry out activities without holding an officer position. Membership is open to all students, and participation may not be limited.
Club Constitution
A club’s constitution is a guiding document that outlines the principles, structure, and procedures of the organization. It serves as a reference when addressing questions or concerns and helps provide consistency as the club grows and changes.
A strong constitution should include:
- Membership requirements and expectations.
- Officer positions, roles, and responsibilities.
- Officer election and removal processes.
- How financial decisions are made and approved.
- Any additional information that is vital to the club’s existence and operations.
You can find a sample constitution template in the Student Organization Handbook and in the Resources section for student organizations.
Registering a New Club
Once you have identified your officers, advisor, and drafted your constitution, you are ready to begin the registration process.
