Department of Social Work
About Us
Serving the Pueblo region since the 1960s, the Department of Social Work prepares students to become ethical, competent professionals committed to positive change in individuals, families, and communities.
The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program has been nationally accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) since 1982. The Master of Social Work (MSW) program received accreditation in 2019.
Our primary mission is to prepare students to recognize that they are part of the change system within the social work profession. Students are consistently encouraged to view weaknesses as opportunities for growth. Self-awareness is foundational — to know oneself is instrumental in understanding and serving others.
We offer multiple entry pathways and learning formats depending on prior experience. While the degree program is primarily face-to-face, select courses may be completed online or in hybrid formats that include on-campus instruction.
Students are provided extensive opportunities to evaluate their motivation for a career in social work and their aptitude for the profession through both academic coursework and field practicum experiences.
Our graduates are highly regarded throughout the social service community and are sought to fill staffing needs in both urban and rural communities across southern Colorado. Many alumni serve as administrators and practitioners in agencies throughout the region.
