Placement Practicum

CSU Pueblo Social Work field placement students

Field Practicum

Field placement practicum allows social work students to observe and participate in real-life situations handled by professionals in the field.

Field Practicum Overview

Placement practicum allows students to observe real-life situations handled by professionals in the field. Social work students are required to apply for admission into the practicum.

An orientation meeting is scheduled by the Placement Coordinator each semester for students planning to enroll in placement during the next session. The BSW Placement Manual will be distributed and discussed during the Fall orientation meeting.

MSW students meet with the MSW Placement Coordinator in the Summer for the Specialized Year and in the Fall semester for the Generalist year.

Additional information is available in the Social Work program BSW or MSW Placement Manuals.

Placement Coordinator Process

Students are never required to find their own placements. The Placement Coordinator works with each student to identify appropriate agencies based on interests, experience, and availability.

  1. Placement applications are completed through Experiential Learning Cloud.
  2. The Placement Coordinator reviews applications and meets with each potential placement student.
  3. The Placement Coordinator determines whether the student meets placement requirements.
  4. The Placement Coordinator discusses eligibility and potential agencies with the student.
  5. Students must not contact placement agencies without coordinator approval.
  6. Students interview with the agency placement instructor once approved.
  7. The Placement Coordinator confirms the placement decision with the agency.
  8. If both student and agency agree, the Placement Agreement is signed and placement becomes official.
