Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC)

Professor of Military Science Commanders Message

Cadets and Families of the Mountain Ranger Battalion, hopefully this message finds you all safe and well as we continue to persevere during COVID-19.  A few short weeks of social distancing make it feel like Thursday labs and in-person classes were a lifetime ago!  The Mountain Ranger Battalion continues to roll!  Cadets from some of our institutions have completed Spring semester and Cadets from UCCS are headed into finals week – stay focused and finish strong - Mountain Rangers always get it done!

Cadet Summer Training: the Commanding General recently announced CST at Fort Knox has been cancelled.  In its place will be a multi-program exercise, "Operation Agile Leader," currently scheduled for the Fall 2020 semester. During Operation Agile Leader we will safely execute much of the training/tasks Cadets will miss this summer. Planning for this major exercise is in progress now.

Summer often brings change in the Army and MRB is no exception.  Please take a moment to wish some of our Cadre farewell as they move on to other life or Army adventures.  CPT Linarelli will be completing a master’s degree right here at UCCS. CPT(P) Brown is headed to California to attend Naval Postgraduate School. MSG Collins will be attending the Sergeants’ Major Academy at Fort Bliss, TX.  And finally, I will be retiring this summer.  My replacement, MAJ(P) Chad Henderson, is already working hard to be ready to hit the ground running as soon as the Army permits him to join us here in beautiful Colorado.

Situations at all our educational institutions are fluid and many decisions about what Fall semester will look like have yet to be made.  Some form of social distancing is sure to be with us for the foreseeable future.  Now is a good time to check on your buddy!  If you’re struggling to stay mentally or physically fit – reach out to your fellow Cadets or MRB Cadre.  Stay flexible, stay safe, stay focused on the big picture as we move forward to the next phase of a different normal.  Remember the Cadre of MRB are here and pulling for you all!

Mountain Rangers!
