Bio

Dr. Sylvester A. Kalevela is a Professor of civil engineering technology and a registered Professional Engineer with interest and experience in the areas of transportation systems, highway and traffic Engineering. He has a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Dar-es-Salaam, a M.S. in civil engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from Arizona State University. Dr. Kalevela has taught courses in transportation and traffic engineering, engineering economy, statics, soil mechanics, structural analysis, reinforced concrete design, hydraulics, highway materials, and computer applications in problem solving. His industrial experience includes transportation system planning, analysis of traffic operations, design of highway traffic control, analysis of land use and development impacts to transportation demand, large event traffic management, and research in highway safety and pavement surface characteristics. Dr. Kalevela is member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Institute of Transportation Engineers, Chi Epsilon (the civil engineering honor society), and the American Society for Engineering Education.
