Marc Sabatella

Marc Sabatella is a pianist, composer, and educator based in Pueblo, Colorado.  He holds an MM in composition (jazz emphasis) from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, where he went on to develop the jazz theory and aural skills curriculum and teach for over ten years.  He has served on the faculty at several other universities along the Front Range as well, and he currently teaches at CSU Pueblo and Pueblo Community College.

Marc rose to prominence as the house pianist at Denver's most famous jazz club, El Chapultepec, and he has performed at many of the major venues and festivals throughout Colorado as a leader and as a sideman.  He has recorded with some of the top jazz musicians in the region, including Hugh Ragin and Fred Hess, and he has accompanied countless visiting artists such as Charles MacPherson, Bobby Shew, and Delfeayo Marsalis.  In Pueblo, Marc performs regularly with the multi-talented Carlos Crull, and he is the pianist for the Song of Pueblo project.

Prior to his music degree, Marc earned an MS in Computer Science, and he has drawn on both of these skills as one of the developers and ambassadors for the popular music notation software, MuseScore.  He teaches online courses in MuseScore and musicianship through his website, Outside Shore Music, which was one of the first music education sites to appear in the early days of the web.  Marc has worked extensively with the community of blind musicians and is recognized as an innovator in the field of accessibility in music software and education.

Marc is also a noted visual artist and a leader in the local arts community.  He is an active member of the Urban Sketchers and has shown paintings in exhibitions and galleries throughout Colorado, including the State Fair.  Marc currently serves on the board of the Pueblo Arts Alliance and as one of the chairs of the Creative Consortium of Pueblo.
