Grant Weller Ph.D.
Director of the Center for the Study of Homeland Security; Associate Professor of History

Bio
Dr Grant Weller is a historian of the modern world with particular focuses on military history, international relations, European history, and Russian history. He developed Duel of Eagles, a special topics course on US-Mexican relations in the 19th century, and is currently working on Spies, Cyphers, and Satellites, a course in the history of intelligence collection, analysis, and operations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in history from the Pennsylvania State University with Minors in Russian Area Studies and Military Studies; a Master of Arts Degree in American History from the University of North Dakota; and a Doctorate in History from Temple University.
Prior to coming to Colorado State University Pueblo, he served on active duty with the U.S. Air Force for twenty-two years, retiring in 2016 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. While on active duty, Lt Col Weller served at Grand Forks AFB, ND; Holloman AFB, NM; the Pentagon, Washington DC; and the US Air Force Academy, CO. His primary duties were in space and nuclear operations, with significant time in special duties assignments as an academic instructor and program manager.
Dr Weller serves as Director of the Center for the Study of Homeland Security. He is currently in the process of redesigning the program to provide students with expanded career opportunities upon graduation. From 2016 to 2023, he served as the Chair of the Department of History, Political Science, Philosophy, and Geography.
Dr Weller is the co-editor of Harnessing the Heavens: National Defense through Space and is completing a manuscript, A Motor Minded Army: The US Army Quartermaster Corps Develops and Implements the First Motorized Logistics System, 1912-1945. His next project will be a history of the Pueblo Army Air Base.
He has particular interests in historical simulations in the classroom (also known as gaming) and study abroad programs. He led a trip to Europe in Summer 2019 to follow the Allied Armies through Britain, France, Belgium, and Germany, including participation in the official commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.
