Bio

Dr. Brett M. Keating enjoys a busy schedule as educator, conductor, clinician, adjudicator, and performer. This summer’s activities have included adjudicating the Irish Band Championships in Clonakilty, Ireland, performing the gala concert at the Midwest Regional International Tuba and Euphonium Conference in Nebraska, Guest Artist at the Boise State University Low Brass Camp in Idaho, presenting at the Colorado Bandmasters Association Conference in Denver, as well as conducting several groups around the state of Colorado.
Dr. Keating will serve as Director of Bands at Colorado State University Pueblo starting this Fall. In this capacity he will Direct the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and oversee the Athletic Band Program. In addition to his duties at CSU Pueblo, Dr. Keating is the Music Director of Colorado Brass and has conducted the band since 2022. He has led Colorado Brass to national recognition with podium finishes at NABBA and the US Masters. He is also the Music Director of the The Lake City Stinger Band (Lake City, CO), The Great Western Rocky Mountain Brass Band (Silverton, CO), and the Colorado Brass Band (Gunnison, CO). Dr. Keating also serves on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Music Educators Association and the North American Brass Band Association.
As a performer Brett has appeared as a featured soloist with orchestra, brass bands, and wind bands in the U.S and Europe, including Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and the UK. His playing has been recognized at national and international competitions including: The Fischoff International & Plowman Chamber Music Competitions, Swiss National and North American Brass Band Championships. 
Prior to his appointment at CSU Pueblo, Brett was Director of Bands at Western Colorado University, and Director of Athletic Bands & Brass at Carroll University. Additionally, he served as Interim Instructor of euphonium and tuba and on the Athletic Band Staff at the University of Kansas. Brett held simultaneous Graduate Teaching Assistantships with the wind conducting and the tuba/euphonium studios while earning his DMA in tuba/euphonium performance, and MM in wind band conducting, and a cognate in electro-acoustic composition at KU. Brett also holds an MM in performance and interpretation of classical & contemporary music from the Hochschule Luzern-Musik, where he lived in beautiful Lucerne, Switzerland for three years. He earned an Artist’s Certificate in low brass performance, as well as a BA in performance from the University of Wisconsin.
