Pathways
Pathways represent the different entry points that students can take to earn their desired degree. Students must select a pathway according to educational and/or field experience
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program offers several Pathways based on previous education and academic entrance criteria that support student achievement at a professional level.
The Basic Admission Pathway is for students that have completed 23 credits (fifty percent) of prerequisite nursing coursework.
Traditionally, students advance from the Pre-Nursing Pathway (first two years of undergraduate studies) into the Basic Admission Pathway (last two years of undergraduate studies).
Therefore, the majority of students are in their second year of studies when admitted into the School of Nursing through the Basic Admissions Pathway.
The Accelerated Pathway is for students that have a non-nursing Baccalaureate degree and have completed 14 credits of prerequisite nursing courses (fifty percent).
This pathway offers students an intense, challenging approach that enables them to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in 14 months.
During the Accelerated year, students participate in a reality based curriculum that includes classroom, Internet and real life clinical experiences in state-of-the-art facilities.
The belief is that a student with a previous degree has moved from simple to more complex use of theories/experiences either in their educational and/or work environments. This and use of multi-theoretical frameworks is congruent with the BSN Program's philosophy.
The Registered Nurse Pathway is tailored for working nurses that are looking to complete their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree online. The program is led through CSU Pueblo Online.
The program consists of 33 credit hours through the articulation agreement, 57 credit hours of prerequisite or co-requisite courses, and 30 credit hours of nursing courses. Graduates are prepared for entry-level baccalaureate nursing or advanced nursing practice in a culturally diverse community.
The High School Pathway is for qualified high school students that meet admission criteria to excel in the rigorous coursework of the BSN Program. Upon admittance to CSU Pueblo, students will begin their prerequisite courses and General Education requirements.
Whereas most students apply into the School of Nursing's BSN Program through the Basic Admissions Pathway at the end of their second year, students in the High School Pathway begin taking program-specific courses as their prerequisite requirements are being met.
The Pre-Nursing Pathway is for students interested in the BSN Program that have not yet completed fifty percent of prerequisite nursing coursework.
Students must be admitted to attend CSU Pueblo and declare their major as the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with an emphasis in Pre-Nursing until fifty percent of prerequisite nursing coursework is completed.
Students can then apply to the Basic Admission Pathway into the BSN Program, which most typically falls at the end of the students' second year of undergraduate studies. At this point, the declared major changes from a Health Science, B.S. to the BSN Program.
While Pre-Nursing is an emphasis area under the Health Sciences Program, it was created as a trajectory towards the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program. For more information, please visit the Health Sciences, B.S. Program Overview.
IMPORTANT
Students in this pathway are not guaranteed acceptance into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program.
If not accepted, students can graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with an emphasis in Pre-Nursing. They are then eligible to apply to the Accelerated BSN Program.
