Workshops

Request a Workshop

Students, faculty, and staff can request a workshop for groups of four or more. Workshops can be held in the Library or in any room on campus with presentation equipment. Workshops should be scheduled at least one week in advance.

Visual Aids
Hands-on Workshop 1 hour
Finding and using images for articles, blogs, theses, or presentations can be stressful. This workshop will introduce you to the library's visual collections and focus on determining whether a particular image requires permission or can be used under "fair use". We'll also provide suggestions on where to find images already flagged for reuse, and best practices for citing images.

Owning your Academic Identity
Hands-on Workshop 1.5 hours
Learn to track and communicate the impact of your research contributions in a networked information world. This workshop presents resources for quantitative metrics, including impact measures and citation counts, as well as how to gather qualitative evidence via tools like altmetrics and social media.

Manage Your Research Data
Presentation/Demonstration 1 hour
Hands-on Workshop 1.5 hours

Data management is a vital part of the research process. This session will cover common data management missteps and walk through the steps of creating and implementing a data management plan, including software solutions and meeting funder compliance policies.

Power Searching in PubMed
Hands-on Workshop 1.5 hours
Learn expert tricks for searching PubMed, a database for health and biomedical literature, and get more from your searches. This workshop covers skills such as: using Medical Subject Headings, accessing full text articles, and using and managing saved searches.

Literature Reviews

Hands-on Workshop 1.5 hours

The literature review is a critical piece of your thesis, dissertation, or research article, providing your readers with context of why your research matters. This workshop will give you strategies and tips for conducting an effective and comprehensive literature review.

Managing Citations with EndNote Web
Hands-on Workshop 1 hour
Citation management software allows you to download citations and articles from various websites and databases, electronically store and organize the citations, annotate and highlight articles, and format citations for your paper and bibliography.

Poster Presentations
Hands-on Workshop 1 hour
Learn how to plan, create, and print academic posters for classes and conferences, and prepare talking points for a clear and effective presentation. Pick from several free templates to start your own design.
