Rare Books

The Rare Book Collection brings together materials that are rare, valuable, or otherwise in need of special handling or protection. Wide-ranging and eclectic in nature, it has concentrations in Western Americana and local history with a few standouts. It consists of approximately 3000 volumes, and includes several special collections:
- Alva B. Adams Collection - The private library of the three-time governor of Colorado.
- Ralph Taylor Collection - Books relating to local history, Coloradiana, railroading, and the southwest.
- The Ruben Archuleta Collection - Books relating to the Penitentes and the Southwest.
- Beatrice Spade Mao Zedong Cultural Revolution Collection – Chinese, Japanese, and English language books relating to the Cultural Revolution, Chinese history, politics, and arts
- The O’Brien Collection of Western Americana
- Pete Reyes Collection – books relating to the Chicano Movement
