Students Showcase Native American Art

Students in the fall 2019 ART 412 course, Native American Art, created an art exhibition entitled, “Arts of the Indigenous America,” celebrating the role of indigenous cultures in our regions past and present. These students studied art and visual design in Native North American cultures from prehistory to contemporary times. As a capstone assignment for this course, the students created an art exhibition curating the work of local contemporary artists.
“The exhibition ‘Arts of Indigenous America’ celebrates the role of indigenous cultures in our regions past and present,” Rachel Zimmerman, Assistant Professor of Art History explained. “Students in my Native American Art class last semester are responsible for much for the exhibition’s research and organization, and have been involved in all stage of the project.”
Professor Accepted into 2020 Cohort Fellowship of the Latino Leadership Institute

Danilo León, Assistant Professor of Spanish at Colorado State University-Pueblo, was recently accepted as a Fellow for the Latino Leadership Institute at the University of Denver as part of the 2020 Cohort.
Latino Leadership Institute Fellowship Program is a nine month professional development experience specific for Latino professionals in the state of Colorado. This Fellowship prepares Latino professional for elevated roles of influence in varying industries including education, government, non-profit, and private sectors. León is the first individual from CSU-Pueblo to be chosen to participate in the Latino Leadership Institute Fellowship Program, which is in its fourth year of existence.
HSB Economics Professor Awarded Highest Honor

Dr. Kevin Duncan, professor of economics in the Hasan School of Business (HSB) at Colorado State University-Pueblo, is the recipient of the inaugural CSU-Pueblo Distinguished University Professor award. The award is the university’s highest honor bestowed on a CSU-Pueblo faculty member and recognizes teaching, research/scholarship/creative activity, and service to CSU-Pueblo and the community. CSU-Pueblo president Timothy Mottet presented Duncan with the award on Monday, January 6 at CSU-Pueblo’s opening spring 2020 Convocation held in the Occhiato Student Center Ballroom on the CSU-Pueblo campus.

Alumni Teacher of the Year & Alumni Educator Hall of Fame Dinner
The Teacher Education Department is proud to announce the Annual Alumni Teacher of the Year and Alumni Educator Hall of Fame Dinner. The event will be held Thursday, March 5 at CSU-Pueblo’s Occhiato Student Center ballroom at 5:30 p.m. The cost to attend is $20 per person.
Hall of Fame inductees and Teacher of the Year honorees will be announced soon.
Pack Basketball Alumni Events
We look forward to welcoming back our Pack Basketball Alumni on Saturday, Feb. 15. Activities will begin with women’s and men’s alumni games in Massari Arena at 1 and 2 p.m., respectively, followed by happy hour at ThunderZone Pizza & Taphouse at 3 p.m.lumni are then invited back to Massari Arena for a special reception in the Hall of Fame Room followed by an exciting evening of Pack Basketball vs. Colorado Mines, women tip-off at 5:30, men at 7:30 p.m.

Football Alumni Weekend/Pack Football Spring Game
Football Alumni Weekend will be April 17 & 18. This exciting weekend allows alumni the opportunity to meet and get to know the current Pack players and coaching staff and continue building on the strength and tradition of Pack Football.
Associated Students’ Government Alumni Reception
In conjunction with the 2020 CSU-Pueblo President’s Gala, the Alumni Association is pleased to host our annual reception for all Associated Students’ Government alumni. This exclusive event will be held Saturday, May 16th at 5 p.m. in the Occhiato Student Center near the fireplace. There is no cost to attend the ASG reception, but we do invite guests to purchase a ticket and plan to attend the 2020 President’s Gala which is immediately following.
Alumni Profile - Pack Football Alum Plays on the Biggest Stage in the NFL
Congratulations to Pack Football alum, Mike Pennel. Mike was a proud member of the ThunderWolves football team in 2013. After spending time with the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and New England Patriots, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2019 season. Mike is a defensive tackle for the Chiefs, wearing #64. He was born in Topeka, KS and grew up watching the Chiefs, and says, “it’s a dream come true” to play in the 2020 Super Bowl.”

Former Pack Football Player a Super Bowl Champion
Former CSU-Pueblo football player Mike Pennel became the school's first Super Bowl Champion when the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV, 31-20 against the San Francisco 49ers. A defensive tackle, Mike joined the Chiefs in October and finished the season with 24 tackles and a sack. In the Super Bowl, Mike recorded a tackle and a quarterback hit that aided an interception by the Chiefs. Mike played for the ThunderWolves in 2013 and was an all-conference performer. He made the 53-man roster of the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent and has played 77 games in six seasons in the NFL.

2020 President's Club Soiree
The Colorado State University-Pueblo President’s Club was established to recognize donors who contribute $1,000 or more annually to CSU-Pueblo. The Leadership Circle was created to recognize lifetime contributions to the University. The 2019 new and advancing members of the President’s Club and Leadership Circle will be honored at the March 10, 2020 President’s Club Soiree Soirée.
