Concentration Areas

All students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in English may select a concentration area as a specialization to their Degree. We offer the following areas of concentrations:

Creative Writing

The Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Creative Writing prepares students for professional careers in the creative writing world, MFA programs, and the rewarding world of writing and publishing.

The program also provides students with foundational knowledge in literature, writing and practice, critical thinking, literary theory, culture and diversity, literary citizenship, and the power of language that will empower them to innovate, communicate, and discover the necessary skills to thrive in their professional career paths and serve their community.

Requirements

The Creative Writing concentration requires a total of 46 credit hours.

Secondary Teaching

The Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Secondary Teaching is for students who seek to obtain a K-12 teacher license in English.

Students will also work closely with the Teacher Education Program to work on certifications, the Praxis exam, and student teaching opportunities to be gain the experience and necessary skills to thrive, lead, and innovate in the classroom.

Requirements

In addition to the English requirements, the Secondary Teaching concentration requires a total of 37 credit hours and acceptance into the Teacher Education Program.
