Admitted Scholars

The Discovery Scholars Program will fund and support first-year students to work with engaged faculty members in research (or scholarly) opportunities within their discipline. It will also provide active mentorship to students engaging in applied and basic research and scholarly activity.

Benefits of Inolvement:

Discovery Scholar (DS) positions are designed to introduce first-year students to undergraduate research/scholarly activity. DS positions are paid a monthly stipend ($200) for the 8 months of September, October, November, December, January, February, March and April.

Expectations for Inolvement:

  • Participate in the Discovery Scholars orientation meeting in September 2022 and January 2023
  • Strongly encouraged (though not required) to enroll in one research credit (For example, BIOL 291) with the department you are completing research with
    • Faculty mentor can provide additional guidance
  • Commit about 6 hours per week towards Discovery Scholars research activities during Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters
  • Demonstrate safe laboratory practices and correctly using lab equipment
  • Submit the monthly stipend effort at the end of every month as required by student employment via PAWS
  • Present Discovery Scholars work at the Spring Symposium (tentatively April 7, 2023). In addition, DS students may present research results at an approved research venue (this may include travel to an appropriate conference which will require timely prior approval)
  • Abide by the CSU-Pueblo Student Code of Conduct
