Dr. Katie Brown

Bio

Dr. Brown completed her Ph.D in Spanish at Arizona State University (Tempe), her MA in Spanish at New Mexico State University (Las Cruces), and her BA in Spanish and English from the University of Louisville (Louisville, KY). Her research centers on translation and Latin American poetry and essay, especially the intersections and interactions between original works, translations, and literary criticism. She has won awards for her translations of some of Silvina Ocampo's poetry as well as for service and scholarship during her PhD program. Other areas of scholarship include Chicana/Chicano studies, and the translation of language, identity and space in the formation of community. She also brings these perspectives into the language-learning classroom, as translation is consciously and unconsciously an integral part of developing linguistic abilities and understanding other cultures.
