Jennifer Bruton, DMA

Bio

Dr. Jennifer Bruton, a native of the Chicago area, is in her first semester as Director of Choral Activities at Colorado State University Pueblo. Jennifer lived in Hattiesburg, Mississippi for over 23 years, serving as a church music director, professor, performing as a vocalist, and conducting choirs, musical theatre productions, and operas across the Pinebelt region. With degrees in Music Marketing, Vocal Performance and Pedagogy, and Conducting, her versatility has her in demand as a conductor, voice teacher, performer, and consultant. Dr. Bruton has sung with the San Antonio Symphony, at the Festival of the Aegean, and as a featured performer at FestivalSouth. Her experience as a voice instructor and professional vocalist brings a unique perspective to her choral direction. She is at ease with a variety of musical styles and ensembles, from traditional choirs to pop performance groups.  

 In addition to directing and overseeing the various choirs, Dr. Bruton’s extensive experience directing and producing stage productions will enable her to assist with the development of the musical theatre program at CSU Pueblo, providing opportunities for students and community members alike.  

 Dr. Bruton has conducted and taught at the University of Southern Mississippi, Jones College, the Natchez Festival of Music, FestivalSouth, and with the Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera. She was a founding member of the award-winning Hub City Players. She is married to the talented Dr. Sam Bruton, tenured professor of philosophy at the University of Southern Mississippi and excellent jazz pianist.
