Bio

Chris Messer joined the faculty in 2008 after receiving his doctorate at Oklahoma State University. He currently serves as Professor and has research interests in organizational deviance, social movements, and collective behavior. He teaches courses such as Collective Behavior and Social Movements, Structural and Elite Crime, Gangs in Contemporary Society, Crime and Deviance, and Social Stratification. His research has been published in journals such as in Rural Sociology, Journal of Black Studies, Environmental Politics, and The Sociological Quarterly. He is also co-author of a book, The Enduring Color Line in U.S. Athletics.
