Dr. Alegría Ribadeneira

Bio

Dr. Ribadeneira completed her MA and PhD degrees at the University of Florida (Gainesville) and her BA degree at Fort Lewis College (Durango, Colorado). She has received several awards for her teaching and service including the Student Choice Award for Outstanding Service and Transformative Leadership at CSU-Pueblo. Her current research interests are in both Literature and Foreign Language Pedagogy. In the literature arena she works with women war novels of the Spanish-speaking world. In Foreign Language Pedagogy she actively researches and presents on issues of instruction, assessment and program development under proficiency guidelines developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Her current project focuses in a study of best teaching practices for courses that combine Heritage Language Learners and Second Language Learners. She has received training in both pedagogy and leadership from the National Heritage Language Resource Institute in UCLA. Finally, Dr. Ribadeneira is also a fiction writer who works with themes of gender oppression, reproduction, identity and standpoint theory.
