CSU-Pueblo to broadcast commencement ceremony on Internet

PUEBLO - Friends and relatives of Colorado State University-Pueblo graduates will be able to celebrate across the miles or across town this Saturday as the University will broadcast the 2016 Commencement ceremony live online.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7 at the Colorado State Fairgrounds Southwest Motors Events Center. Graduates are asked to report at 8:45 a.m. to the Palace of Agriculture to line up for the ceremony. All graduates walking on Saturday must pick up a graduate packet and/or caps and gowns between 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Friday, May 6 in the CSU-Pueblo Bookstore.

More than 600 graduates have indicated they will walk in this year's Commencement ceremony. Graduates and family members who cannot attend the event in person will be able to watch it by visiting http://www.csupueblo.edu/Commencement and clicking on "Watch Commencement Ceremony Live" or linking to http://livestream.com​

1986 Alumnus Daniel Jirón will present the Commencement Address. Jirón became Regional Forester of the USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Region, in March 2012. As Regional Forester he is responsible for the administration of more than 22 million acres in 17 National Forests and 7 National Grasslands, as well as cooperative efforts with state and private landowners in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and eastern Wyoming. In his nearly 30 years with the Forest Service, he has held numerous positions from national press officer and agency spokesperson to forest supervisor and district ranger. He made his move to Washington, D.C. soon after graduating from CSU-Pueblo as an aide to United States Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell

A dedicated student, athlete, future teacher and active member of the campus community, Bailey Hughes, a native of Big Fork, Montana, will receive the first diploma of the ceremony as recipient of the 2016 Threlkeld Award for Excellence. Hughes will graduate with a bachelor's degree in liberal studies (education), a minor in elementary education, and a teacher's license for grades K-6. She will begin a master's degree in education at CSU-Pueblo next year as she uses her final year of athletic eligibility.

The CSU-Pueblo Alumni Association will host a reception following the ceremony in a tent to the south of the Events Center.
