Bio

Dr. Summers has over 30 years of nursing experience and 20 of those years spent in nursing education.  She has taught at the associate, bachelor, and master’s levels in online, hybrid, and classroom environments.  Dr. Summers currently serves as the CSU Pueblo Graduate Nursing Program Coordinator, providing direct oversight for the Nurse Educator, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care, Family, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (NP) programs.

 She is nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  From the University of Colorado, Dr. Summers received both her master’s degree with a Family Nurse Practitioner emphasis in 1995 and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree in 2009.  Research interests are provider perceptions regarding obesity and how that impacts care.

Dr. Summers is a past President on the Colorado Board of Nursing, serving in this role for six years.  She manages her own clinical practice via telehealth and continues to see patients on a regular basis.  

While maintaining current APRN licensure and current clinical practice and as faculty, Dr. Summers continues to teach online graduate nursing courses including: Doctor of Nursing Practice Organizational Systems Leadership, Advanced Assessment, Advanced Pharmacology.

 Dr. Summers states, "The most enjoyable part of my job is working with students to produce quality outcomes and with faculty to produce excellent employee satisfaction."
