Liz Viall

Bio

As the journalism professor at Colorado State University-Pueblo, Liz is assisting in the advisement of the Today print and online magazine, as well as instructing copy editing, publication graphics and design.

Liz earned a bachelor degree in journalism and government at Eastern Washington University. She obtained her master’s in journalism at the University of Alabama and received her doctorate in mass communications at Indiana University.

Dr. Viall is a former instructor at Eastern Illinois University where she taught courses in publication design, advanced publication design, visual communication, advanced reporting, copy editing, and history of American journalism, online journalism, news writing, publicity methods, and PR in society. She was the adviser for the student-run PR agency. She also taught journalism courses at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Indiana University, Lamar University, and the University of Alabama. She spent a decade as a reporter, photographer and editor at newspapers in Washington State before she began teaching.​​​​

Liz has published academic articles in Journalism & Mass Communication Educator, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, and the Journal of Mass Media Ethics. She is a co-author of “The Public Speaking Workbook” and published in Quill, the magazine of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Her academic interests include research in new media, especially online journalism.
