Bio

Gary Stephens is from Denver, Colorado. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Northern Colorado.  While attending UNC, Gary won the University Concerto Competition in both his freshman and senior years.  He has held the assistant principal horn position with the Colorado Symphony, and the Denver Symphony Orchestra.  Gary served as principal horn with the Colorado Ballet Orchestra, and has performed with the American Wind Symphony, the Denver Chamber Orchestra, the Central City Opera, the Denver Center Theater Company, and the Aries Brass Quintet.  Gary was a member of The United States Air Force Academy Band for 21 years and served as principal horn and soloist with the Concert Band, as well as performing with the Rampart Winds woodwind quintet and Stellar Brass.  One of the many highlights of his Air Force career includes performing as an artist/clinician along with Stellar Brass at the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute.  He continues to enjoy performing throughout the Front Range with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, The Opera Theatre of the Rockies, the Denver Brass, the Colorado Brass Arts Group, and as a member of the Colorado State University-Pueblo Faculty Woodwind and Brass Quintets.  Gary’s teachers and mentors include Mark Denekas, Jack Herrick, Christopher Leuba, Sam Pilafian, Alan Dean, and Ronald Romm.​
