Alumni Association hosts Basketball Reception
The Alumni Association in partnership with Pack Athletics will host an Alumni Night reception for alumni and their families as part of the men’s and women’s basketball games versus University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Saturday, Jan. 14. The women’s tipoff is at 5:30 p.m., with the men’s game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
CSU-Pueblo earns CASE VI Grand Gold for Alumni Stipend Program
The Alumni Office earned a Grand Gold award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VI for its Alumni Development Stipend Award Program, which provides funding to academic departments to re-engage alumni with their alma mater. CSU-Pueblo Director of Alumni Relations Tracy Samora accepted the award at the CASE V and VI joint conference held Dec. 11-13 in Chicago, Ill. The award was one of 167 winners chosen from 442 entries submitted by CASE VI member institutions. The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) supports alumni relations, communications, development, and marketing professionals at educational institutions worldwide.
Gonzales to speak at as part of Native Voices exhibit
CSU-Pueblo has been selected in a competitive application process to host Native Voices: Native Peoples’ Concepts of Health and Illness, a traveling exhibition to U.S. libraries, from March 1 to April 13, 2017 in the Library and Academic Resources Center (LARC) Lobby. In association with the exhibit in the , University of Arizona Professor Patrisia Gonzales will share her expertise in indigenous ways of knowing and indigenous medicine beginning at 7 p.m. on March 9 in LARC 109. As one of 104 grant recipients selected from across the country, CSU-Pueblo will receive a $250 programming grant, virtual training, and publicity materials. Native Voices: Native Peoples’ Concepts of Health and Illness was displayed at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland, from 2011 to 2015. CSU-Pueblo Hasan School of Business to offer online MBA
The Hasan School of Business (HSB) has announced that beginning in February, 2017, students will be able to earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in one year through a new online program administered through the University’s Office of Extended Studies.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Colorado State University-Pueblo will host its annual Martin Luther King event on Monday, Jan. 16 [POSTPONED UNTIL FEB 1 AT 6PM]. The MLK Remembrance Dialogue and Appetizers will begin at 6 p.m. in Library and Academic Resources Center (LARC) 109. Pikes Peak Community College Professor of Business Dr. Jaki Taggart will present the keynote address in LARC 108. After the keynote address, a reception will be held on the 6th floor of the Library with a musical performance by the Sankey sisters from Pueblo.
Activist Bree Newsome to speak
A community organizer and activist who removed the confederate battle flag from the South Carolina State House will share her story and insights to kick off the Spring 2017 Semester at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Distinguished Speaker Bree Newsome will appear at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31 in Life Sciences Auditorium 105. Sponsored by Student Engagement and Leadership through student fees, the event is open to the public at no charge.

CSU-Pueblo finalizes Cannabis Research Projects through ICR
The Institute of Cannabis Research (ICR) at Colorado State University-Pueblo has finalized the awards for cannabis-related research that will be conducted on the campus in the coming year, using Pueblo County and state funding.
Miss Colorado 2015 Kelley Johnson to speak at CSU-Pueblo Nursing Convocation
The inspirational registered nurse who advocated for the nursing profession as part of her Miss America experience will be the featured speaker at the 2017 Convocation Ceremony at CSU-Pueblo. Kelley Johnson, a registered nurse who was Miss Colorado 2015 in the Miss America 2016 competition, will help celebrate the Department of Nursing’s 2017 Convocation Ceremony at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 19 in Hoag Recital Hall.
Applications now open for 2017 Smithsonian Internships
Colorado State University-Pueblo will send more students to Washington, D.C. next summer through a partnership with the Smithsonian Institution. Junior or senior students may now apply for the internships, which will occur May 30-July 1, 2017. The six unpaid internships include housing covered by the university and a small stipend for expenses. Students also may earn up to three hours of internship credit for completing the experience.
CSU-Pueblo hosts 39th annual Math Day Competitions
The Department of Mathematics and Physics at Colorado State University-Pueblo has announced the results from the 39th Annual Math Day Swanson and Math Bowl competitions, held on campus Thursday, Nov. 17. A total of 16 high schools participated in Math Day activities, including Antonito, Center, Coronado, Cripple Creek-Victor, Doherty, Fountain-Fort Carson, La Junta, Pine Creek, Pueblo Centennial, Pueblo Central, Pueblo County, Rye, Salida, Swallows Charter, Academy, and Swink. In addition to participating in the competitions, students were able to visit laboratories and view demonstrations in the biology, chemistry, engineering, and physics departments.
CSU-Pueblo and the Pueblo Library District host book festival
Pueblo City-County Library District and Colorado State University – Pueblo’s Chicano Studies and English departments will host the 3rd Annual Latina/Latino Book Festival: Discover Your Literary Universe, November 17-19. Readings by Benjamin Saenz will begin at 4 p.m. in the Library and Academic Resources Center 109.

CSU-Pueblo forensics team wins tourney, national qualification
The Colorado State University-Pueblo Forensics Team won the open division of the 47th Annual Trapper Rendezvous held at Northwest Community College in Powell, WY and a duo qualified for the National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence (NPTE). The Trapper Rendezvous is the team's first tournament championship under the direction of Kathryn Starkey.

Faculty member earns Higher Ed SHAPE Teacher of the Year
A Colorado State University-Pueblo faculty member received the Outstanding Higher Education Teacher of the Year Award from SHAPE Colorado, an organization committed to advocating for quality physical education, health education, and physical activity resources. Karen Marley, a lecturer in the Department of Exercise Science, Health Promotion, and Recreation, accepted the honor at the 2017 SHAPE Colorado convention held Oct. 19-21 in Colorado Springs.

CSU-Pueblo hosts a delegation of 10 Chinese professors
Colorado State University-Pueblo’s Teacher Education Program, English Language Institute, and the Center for International Programs are helping a delegation of 10 professors from two Chinese universities learn about American teaching practices and pedagogy as part of the first Chinese Teacher Training Program. The delegates from Shangqiu Normal University and Xuchang University represent various fields of study, including journalism, communication, physics, electrical information engineering, art and design, international studies, electrical engineering, and business.
CSU-Pueblo Keyboard Arts Festival features Monster Concert
Halloween goblins won't be the only ones in the area over the next few weeks as the Colorado State University-Pueblo music department hosts a Monster Concert as part of its annual Pueblo Keyboard Arts Festival. Five grand pianos will grace the Hoag Recital Hall stage as part of the Monster Concert beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. Admission to the concert is free.
CSU-Pueblo hosts 13th Young Women’s Real World Conference
For the 13th straight year, Colorado State University-Pueblo will be the site of the Young Women’s Real World Conference. This year’s conference takes place from 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, in the Occhiato University Center Ballroom. The conference draws nearly 80 high school-aged girls from Pueblo.
CSU-Pueblo to host philosopher, author, activist Cornel West
Prominent and provocative author and activist Dr. Cornel West will speak at Colorado State University-Pueblo on Thursday, November 17 as part of a speaker series sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). West will give a public lecture at 6:45 p.m. in Hoag Recital Hall. The event is open to the public at no charge.

Veteran’s Week activities November 8-12 at Colorado State University-Pueblo will include aircraft flyovers, a presentation by a female veteran, the third annual Home of Heroes Veterans Day Concert featuring the CSU-Pueblo music faculty and staff, an event to bring awareness to and assist homeless veterans, and a Hero Workout honoring fallen serviceman Matthew James Whalen.

Two students were crowned Homecoming King and Queen during the 2016 Homecoming activities at Colorado State University-Pueblo, Oct. 12 to Oct. 16. Timothy “Wayne” Pigott, Aurora, a graduate student (Master of Business Administration) in the Hasan School of Business, and Bailey Bair, Yuma, a senior Health Promotion and Wellness major, accepted crowns and capes during halftime of the ThunderWolves 33-12 victory over Fort Lewis in the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl.

CSU-Pueblo earns $6 million grant to build active STEM learners
Colorado State University-Pueblo will receive nearly $6 million over the next five years from the U.S. Department of Education to increase the number of Hispanic and other low-income students earning degrees in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) fields through development of new curriculum, centers for learning and engagement, and a model transfer and articulation agreement between CSU-Pueblo and Pueblo Community College.

Forensics Team hosts Rocky Mountain Classic tournament
The Colorado State University-Pueblo Forensics Team hosted the Rocky Mountain Classic, an invitational speech and debate tournament, this past weekend on the CSU-Pueblo campus. Throughout the course of the weekend, almost 200 competitors and coaches competed to crown tournament champions in the 11 different American Forensics Association speech events and NPDA-style parliamentary debate. Represented at the tournament were: Colorado Christian University, Concordia University Irvine, Northern Arizona University, Northwest College, San Diego State University, Snow College, Texas Tech University, United States Air Force Academy, University of Utah, Western Nebraska Community College, and Western Wyoming Community College.
CSU-Pueblo receives five-year grant that includes Virtual EOC
Colorado State University-Pueblo will receive more than $435,000 annually over the next five years to improve college access for adult learners. The award from the U.S. Department of Education was among $48 million in grants distributed to 143 colleges and organizations in 42 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico under the Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) program - all aimed at providing accessible college guidance to adults who have difficulty deciphering the steps needed for college admissions and continued success through graduation.

Colorado State University-Pueblo officials announced positive 2016 fall retention and enrollment figures, which significantly exceeded budget projections and included a 5.4 percent increase in the freshmen class. The University's overall student population is the most diverse in its history at 49.3 percent minority.

CSU-Pueblo awarded five-year, $1.2 million Talent Search grant
Colorado State University-Pueblo has been awarded a five-year, $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to fund Talent Search as part of its TRiO programs, beginning Sept. 1. Talent Search will help up to 500 middle and high school students annually at three Pueblo high schools and three Pueblo middle schools with career exploration and secondary school success initiatives as well as transition into post-secondary education.

A GH Phipps professor/intern bent on teaching others
This summer, GH Phipps Construction Companies has brought on board Daniel Trujillo, an assistant professor from Colorado State University-Pueblo, one of four educators selected by a national program to place those who teach construction management into the heart of a construction company for six weeks.
CSU-Pueblo offers Summer Transportation Institute, June 13-24
Secondary school students can investigate the transportation industry as a possible career choice as part of a two-week, non-residential National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) at Colorado State University - Pueblo in June. CSU - Pueblo civil engineering technology faculty will conduct the Institute from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 13 to 24 for students in grades 6 through 8 attending public or private schools in Colorado. Students interested in the program are encouraged to apply immediately.

Student team in finals for LiveWell Colorado Film Challenge
Colorado State University - Pueblo student team is one of the four finalists in the 2016 LiveWell Colorado Film Challenge, a new statewide competition for short films about barriers to healthy living in Colorado. At a public screening and awards event on Thursday, August 18, 2016, winners will take home a total of $12,000 in cash prizes, with prizes going to both the filmmakers and the media/film departments at their respective schools.
CSU-Pueblo hosting CSMTA Music Conference June 2-4
The Colorado State Music Teachers Association (CSMTA) annual conference will be held June 2-3 at the CSU-Pueblo Art/Music building. There will be three concerts at Hoag Recital Hall as part of the conference. All performances are open to the public. The evening concerts are $15/person at the door, and the morning concert is free.
CSU-Pueblo Search and Rescue becomes second college team
Colorado State University-Pueblo will be the second higher education institution in Colorado with an active Search and Rescue Team after signing an agreement with Pueblo County to participate in the Emergency Services Bureau at the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office.
CSU–Pueblo announces 2016 Spring Dean’s List
The following 1057 students have been named to the 2016 Spring Semester Dean's List at Colorado State University-Pueblo. The list recognizes undergraduate degree-seeking students who have completed 12 or more credit hours with a minimum grade-point-average of 3.5. Those 341 students whose names appear with an asterisk (*) earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average. The students are listed by country, state, and town.
CSU-Pueblo to host Summer Math Academy for grades 7-10
The CSU-Pueblo Noyce Scholars Program will offer an eight-day Summer Math Academy from 1-3 p.m. on June 13 - 16 and June 20 - 23. This student-oriented program will focus on algebraic thinking and proportional reasoning.
Walker Family Donates to CSU–Pueblo Rodeo Club
Gary and Georgia Walker have donated $10,000 to the recently renewed rodeo club team at Colorado State University-Pueblo. The gift will assist the team with travel, entry fees, and other operational needs of the team.
CSU-Pueblo enters partnership with Smithsonian this summer
Colorado State University-Pueblo will officially kick off a new partnership with the Smithsonian Institution this summer by sending five students to Washington, D.C. for month-long internships in June. The five students selected for the internships will work in a variety of museums and locations across the Smithsonian from June 1-July 1 as part of a partnership that began with the University's involvement with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU).

New and expectant mothers can arm themselves with knowledge necessary to raise a happy, healthy, and safe child at the 6th annual Community Baby Shower presented by the Pueblo Early Childhood Council and the Colorado State University-Pueblo Nursing Department. The free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, June 3 at the Praise Assembly of God Church in Pueblo, 2000 Troy Avenue.

Colorado State University-Pueblo will sponsor a day of activities, including a memorial service, personal testimony, lectures, and displays on Thursday, May 5 in recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day. CSU-Pueblo honors Hughes with Threlkeld Prize as top senior
A dedicated student, athlete, future teacher and active member of the campus community has been named the 2016 recipient of the Threlkeld Prize for Excellence at Colorado State University-Pueblo. CSU-Pueblo hosts Multi-Sport, Adventure Day Camps
The Student Recreation Center (SRC) at Colorado State University-Pueblo hosts the 5th annual Multi-Sport & Adventure camp this summer for kids entering grades 1 through 5. In addition, the University has added this summer a pilot week for ½ day kindergarten group the week of June 13-17 and a camp group for those in grades 6-8. Camps will be held at the SRC at CSU-Pueblo from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
CSU-Pueblo Pueblo honors outstanding faculty and staff
Outstanding faculty and staff leaders at Colorado State University - Pueblo were honored at a recognition luncheon held on Thursday, April 21. Disability Resource and Support Center Director Justin Hiniker was recognized as the 2016 Outstanding Professional Employee, while Payroll Accountant Vicki Becker was named the Outstanding Classified Employee. Richard Farrer, Associate Professor of Chemistry, earned the top faculty honor for Faculty Excellence in Teaching. The Facilities Management Team earned the Outstanding Team Award.

First Pueblo County String Invitational Concertino
The music department at Colorado State University-Pueblo will host the first concertino featuring CSU-Pueblo's Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble at 7 p.m., on April 27 in Hoag Recital Hall. Harvard Physicist to lead lecture, workshop on May 2

Entrepreneurs pitched their product ideas and business plans on Friday, April 8 as part of the Third Annual Pueblo Entrepreneurship Competition coordinated by the Healy Center in the Hasan School of Business at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Three student teams presented in the K-12 division, and six entrepreneurial hopefuls pitched their business ideas, "shark tank" style to five venture capitalists.

CSU-Pueblo ROTC Cadets place in top 10 at Memorial March
Four members of the Army Reserved Officer's Training Corp (ROTC) at Colorado State University-Pueblo placed in the top 10 at the Bataan Memorial Death March held March 20 at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. All 13 of the CSU-Pueblo cadets completed the 26.2 mile event that honors a special group of World War II heroes.

The President and CEO of the United Way of Pueblo County and former president of the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Pueblo will receive the President's Medallion for Distinguished Alumni Achievement as part of the President's Gala on May 14. CSU-Pueblo Forensics Team Advances to Elimination Rounds
The Forensics Team at Colorado State University-Pueblo returned from the National Parliamentary Debate Association (NPDA) National Championship at California State University-Long Beach after competing March 19-21. The team of Eliana Taylor, junior English major from Longmont, and Max Groznik, freshman political science and history major from Lake Oswego, Ore., finished the tournament with a 5-3 record, advancing to elimination rounds. They won debates against the University of Nevada at Reno, Western Washington University, the College of Idaho, the US Air Force Academy, and Lewis and Clark College.

CSU-Pueblo offers music camp for students ages 10-18
Students ages 10-18 will have a unique opportunity this summer to participate in a strings and piano music camp at Colorado State University-Pueblo that will include daily performances and physical/outdoor activities. The Southern Colorado Adventure Music Camp will be held from July 11-15, 2016 through the University's Department of Music and Outdoor Pursuits program. This summer, students can experience an innovative model of instruction during a month-long residential program for which they can earn up to 12 credit hours from Colorado State University-Pueblo. New online Construction Management program offered
Colorado State University-Pueblo seeks to equip the nation with professionals to replace a retiring workforce and take advantage of a growth industry with its first online degree program. Beginning in Spring 2016, the first online degree completion program offered by CSU-Pueblo Online will be a bachelor's degree in Construction Management.
CSU-Pueblo receives $50,000 grant from COSI
The Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF) program at Colorado State University-Pueblo is among the 28 initiatives across Colorado to receive a grant from the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative.
