Minor in Digital Music and Audio Production

Are you a student who loves music, has a good pair of ears, and who either isn't into the glitz and glamour of live performance, or wants to extend your musical exploration but who really isn't interested in majoring in music, or just loves audio technology? Perhaps you're into creating music, but you don't read or write music notation- and you have some basic computer skills? Then CSU-Pueblo's Digital Music and Audio Production (DMAP) minor is for you!

The Minor in Digital Music and Audio Production serves as an introduction to the basic concepts of music and audio production. The minor includes coursework not only in the Music Department, but also in CSU-Pueblo's Mass Communications and Center For New Media (MCCNM) department.

DMAP minors take courses in Music and Audio Production (MUS 110, MUS 310), as well as classes in digital media from MCCNM.

DMAP students use Avid's Pro Tools® industry-standard digital audio workstation software. Students have access to a 10-seat lab for regular classwork, and may also use a small recording studio for recording and other related projects. Students learn the basics of digital audio recording, editing, and mixing; digital media for distribution (CD, DVD, online), MIDI, using virtual instruments and loops, microphone selection and function, and the integration of both digital and analog recording sources. The ability to read and notate music is helpful, but not essential.

Electives in the minor include Computer Music Technology courses, which utilize Sibelius notation software (ability to read and notate music a prerequisite), Electronic Music (Synthesizers and MIDI), and Film Scoring (music composition integrating Pro Tools and Sibelius).
