Minor in Music Technology
Are you a student who loves music, has a good pair of ears, and who either isn't into the glamour of live performance, wants to extend your musical exploration but who really isn't interested in majoring in music, or just loves audio technology? Then CSU-Pueblo's Music Technology (Music and Audio Production) Minor is for you!
The Minor in Music Technology serves as an introduction to the basic concepts of music and audio production. The minor includes coursework not only in the Music Department, but also in CSU-Pueblo's Mass Communications and Center For New Media (MCCNM) department.
Music Technology minors take courses in Music and Audio Production (MUS 110, MUS 310), as well as classes in digital media from MCCNM.
CSU-Pueblo's Music and Audio Production programs are based around Avid's Pro Tools industry-standard digital audio workstation software. Students have access to a 10-seat lab for regular classwork, and may also use a small recording studio for recording and other related projects. Students learn the basics of digital audio recording, editing, and mixing; digital media for distribution (CD, DVD, online), MIDI, using virtual instruments and loops, microphone selection and function, and the integration of both digital and analog recording sources. The ability to read and notate music is helpful, but not essential.
Electives in the minor include Computer Music Technology courses, which utilize Sibelius and Finale notation software (ability to read and notate music a prerequisite), Electronic Music (Synthesizers and MIDI), and Film Scoring (music composition integrating Pro Tools and Sibelius).
