About the Department

The Department of Media Communication is proud of its 52-year history in southern Colorado and of the positive contributions that our alumni have made in the region, the nation, and the world. We are committed to continuing our tradition of providing the highest-quality media communication education well into the future.

We pride ourselves on the collegial environment we provide for students. We see our students as colleagues, working hand-in-hand with faculty and staff to ensure they are well-prepared for careers in the media communications professions.

One of the ways our students prepare for work in the professions is by getting involved with our hands-on media labs. Our radio station, Rev 89, provides students with an opportunity to do live sports broadcasts, public affairs programming, daily news broadcasts and music announcing, playing the greatest music ever created.

Our campus newspaper/online news site, the CSU-Pueblo Today, allows students an opportunity to report on events on campus and in the community via a traditional print newspaper and an online news website, which includes video news segments. Students can also get valuable experience with advertising sales when they work with the CSU Pueblo Today.

Our affiliation with Rocky Mountain PBS and their Pueblo studio, located in the same building as our department, provides an opportunity for students to work on a variety of television productions.

Our faculty are able to provide a high-quality education because we’ve all worked in the fields in which we teach. We understand the fundamental knowledge and skills that are needed in the professional world, and we maintain close ties with professionals to ensure our students are up-to-date with their skills and knowledge.

Although we house one of the larger majors at CSU Pueblo, students who choose to study in the media communications department will get to know the faculty, staff and other students well. We learn all of our students’ names, so don’t expect to hide in the crowd here.

If you have any questions about our department, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’d love to meet you!
