    Introduction

Dr. Barbara Brett-Green, Ph.D. with the assistance of her research team, including Dr. Hardik Doshi, MD is seeking participants for a study investigating whether medicinal cannabis use is beneficial for adults with medically refractory epilepsy. More specifically, we want to know how medicinal cannabis use affects seizures, physiology, and quality of life. This study will take place over a period of six months. Three times during the course of this study, participants are asked to fill out questionnaires and provide urine samples, either via remote participation or at Dr. Brett-Green’s lab in the Psychology Building on the Colorado State University-Pueblo campus (P-139).

To assess how medicinal cannabis use affects seizures and to characterize how medicinal cannabis affects physiology, participants wear an E4 wristband, by Empatica, for daily wireless physiological recording. Data acquired by the E4 includes blood volume pulse, heart rate, electrodermal activity, motion-based activity/acceleration, and temperature.

Participants are provided with a tablet computer to use for uploading the E4 data to a secure server. The E4 must be returned at the end of the study; however, participants are offered the opportunity to keep the tablet computer. You will also be monetarily compensated for participation. The researchers provide NO cannabis to the participants of this study. Participants are provided with instruction to access the Realm of Caring a 501-3C non-profit organization that provides support services for individuals who are interested in using cannabis medicinally. This study is not intended to influence the clinical management of your epilepsy by your physician.
