Institute of Cannabis Research

Overview of the ICR

The Institute of Cannabis Research is the state of Colorado’s official cannabis research institute as specified by Colorado law, HB 19-1311. The role and mission of the institute is to conduct and communicate scientific research and is guided by a Governing Board whose members are appointed by the office of the Governor of Colorado, and includes prominent cannabis scientists, leaders from Colorado’s institutions of higher education, and cannabis business representatives. The Governing Board also directs the spending of money by the institute.

Our Internal Research

The ICR exists to facilitate cannabis research on wide-ranging topics by providing competitive funding opportunities to qualified applicants. The outcomes of the ICR’s research are published in the peer-reviewed scientific literature, including the Journal of Cannabis Research which the ICR sponsors, and presented at national and international symposiums and conferences, technical reports, and at the ICR’s Annual Cannabis Research Conference.
