Raphael Mechoulam, the “Father” of cannabis, dies aged 92
Raphael Mechoulam, considered by many to be the “Father” of cannabis, died today, aged 92, in Jerusalem, Israel. The news was advanced this morning by Israeli researcher and former student of Mechoulam, Dedi Meiri, on LinkedIn. Mechoulam was the most influential and pioneering figure in the field of medical cannabis research internationally. The funeral will be held on Sunday, March 12th at 4pm in Givat Shaul, Jerusalem.
The ICR has the honor of being the last institution to host Dr. Mechoulams's hand-picked selection for the keynote speaker, Dr. Esther Shohami, PhD. The ICR plans to present a slideshow of Dr. Mechoulam's work and life at the FY23 Conference in honor of his legacy.
The ICR was established in June 2016 through an innovative partnership between Colorado State University Pueblo, the state of Colorado, and Pueblo County.
With initial funding support from Pueblo County and the state of Colorado, the ICR is the nation’s first multi-disciplinary cannabis research center at a regional, comprehensive institution. The primary function of the Institute is the generation of knowledge that contributes to science, medicine, and society through investigation of the benefits and risks associated with cannabis. Research findings are used to translate discoveries into innovative applications that improve lives.
