Masters Program in History

The MA in History at CSU-Pueblo is designed to give students a broad background in historical fields and methodologies, with a particular emphasis in American History and the American Southwest.  In pursuit of this aim, students will research and study specific events, primary documents, personalities, turning points, contemporary interpretations, and historiographies pertaining to important trends in History.  Courses will be offered in the evening to accommodate working professionals, with approximately two courses scheduled each semester, including the summer session.

 Career Path

The MA program is intended to prepare students for a variety of career paths.  The program offers excellent preparation for elementary and secondary school teachers, government service, library and archival work, preservation and museum management, journalism, and public history.  It also provides an excellent foundation for advanced degrees in history, law, political science, and other social science and humanities disciplines.

 Program Goals

  • Students will demonstrate advanced research and writing skills by producing thoughtful, focused, and well-written papers.
  • Students will critically evaluate and interpret primary and secondary sources from a variety of time periods and geographic regions.
  • Students will compete successfully in appropriate job markets or gain admission to history PhD programs.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of the important historiographic trends in the study of history and be able to draw conclusions about them.
