BS in Civil Engineering Technology

The major in civil engineering technology leads to a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil Engineering Technology (BSCET) Degree.  The major is designed to produce civil engineering technologists who:

          (a) are capable of performing engineering surveys,
          (b) can perform standard analysis and design of elements of structures, water systems, and transportation systems,
          (c) are capable of conducting standard laboratory and field tests for construction materials and soils, and
          (d) are competent to function as construction project managers.

The civil engineering technology program covers three broad subdisciplines of civil engineering. They are:

          (a) Structural Engineering
          (b) Transportation Engineering
          (c) Water-Resource Engineering

This program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Engineering is the art of applying scientific and mathematical principles, experience, judgment, and common sense to make things that benefit people. Engineering professionals are problem-solver people who make things work better, more efficiently, quicker and less expensively. They use skills and dedication to search for better ways to solve problems.

Engineering Technology graduates can choose one of three engineering professions:

  • Engineer
  • Engineering Technologist
  • Technician

An engineering profession offers:

  • Challenging jobs
  • Good pay and benefits
  • Lasting and tangible products
  • Help to humankind
  • Prestige and status

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) of the Civil Engineering Technology (CET) program at Colorado State University Pueblo is to provide an integrated educational experience so that its graduates are:

  • Prepared to apply established engineering principles and standards of practice in developing solutions to civil engineering problems, and
  • Prepared for successful careers in civil engineering by providing them with the ability to contribute to engineering teams in various practice areas including:
1. civil engineering analysis and design,
2. construction planning, operation and management,
3. surveying and standard testing
4. technical documentation, computer application and
5. operations and improvement.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)

Students who complete the CET program at CSU Pueblo will have the ability to:

  1. apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  2. design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  3. apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
  4. conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
  5. function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.

Message from the Program Coordinator

I am excited to know that you are considering the civil engineering technology program to enhance your career. You took the right decision at the right time! We cover three broad areas of civil engineering technology: Structural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering and Transportation Engineering. Our program is job oriented with less theory and more practice. We believe that every student like you has the potential to be a successful engineer and we will try to make it happen.
