Civil Engineering Technology

The major in civil engineering technology leads to a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology (BSCET) Degree.  The major is designed to produce civil engineering technologists who (a) are capable of performing engineering surveys, (b) can perform standard analysis and design of elements of structures, water systems, and transportation systems, (c) are capable of conducting standard laboratory and field tests for construction materials and soils, and (d) are competent to function as construction project managers.

This program is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Engineering is the art of applying scientific and mathematical principles, experience, judgment, and common sense to make things that benefit people. Engineering professionals are problem-solver people who make things work better, more efficiently, quicker and less expensively. They use skills and dedication to search for better ways to solve problems.

Engineering Technology is one of three engineering professions

  • Engineer
  • Engineering Technologist
  • Technician

An engineering profession offers:

  • Challenging jobs
    Good pay and benefits
    Lasting and tangible products
    Help to humankind
    Prestige and status

Program Educational Objectives

The objective of the Civil Engineering Technology (CET) program at Colorado State University-Pueblo is to provide an integrated educational experience so that its graduates are:

  • Prepared to apply established engineering principles and standards of practice in developing solutions to civil engineering problems, and
  • Prepared for successful careers in civil engineering by providing them with the ability to contribute to engineering teams in various practice areas including (a) engineering analysis and design, (b) construction planning and management, (c) experimentation, (d) technical documentation, and (e) systems operations or maintenance.

Students Outcomes

a.An ability to select and apply the knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of the discipline to broadly-defined engineering technology activities

b. An ability to select and apply a knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering and technology to engineering technology problems that require the application of principles and applied procedures or methodologies

c. An ability to conduct standard tests and measurements; to conduct, analyze and interpret experiments; and to apply experimental results to improve processes

d.An ability to design systems, components, or processes for broadly defined engineering technology problems appropriate to program educational objectives

e.An ability to function effectively as a member or leader on a technical team

f.An ability to identify, analyze and solve broadly-defined engineering technology problems

g.An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in both technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature

h.An understanding of the need for and ability to engage in self-directed continuing professional development

i.An understanding of and commitment to address professional and ethical responsibilities including a respect for diversity

j.A knowledge of the impact of engineering technology solutions in a societal and global context

k.A commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement

Message from the Program Coordinator

I am excited to know that you are considering the civil engineering technology program to enhance your career. You took the right decision at the right time! We cover three broad areas of civil engineering technology: Structural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering and Transportation Engineering. Our program is job oriented with less theory and more practice. We believe that every student like you has the potential to be a successful engineer and we will try to make it happen.

I am here always to smile and help you!
