National Chemistry Week is Oct. 22-28, and the theme this year is "Chemistry Rocks". The Chemistry Club and Chemistry Department at CSU-Pueblo will be serving as host site for the American Chemical Society's webinar of the same name (Chemistry Rocks).
As part of the webinar, participants will learn about topics including:

How can we use minerals to improve the quality of life? What is the structural chemistry of various gemstones? What is biomineralization and how can it inspire sustainable and novel building materials? How mineralizing carbon dioxide can make an impact on the future of climate change? What is the energy-water-food nexus and why do minerals matter? What are extremophiles and how does their biochemistry allow them to thrive in extreme environments? What are some potential future careers in rock and mineral chemistry?

In addition to the webinar some of the fine mineral specimens that are part of the collections housed in the Chemistry Department will be on display.
